No festive season can be fully accomplished without a Carol concert. Edinburgh’s Scottish Polish Cultural Association organised an exceptionally interesting Christmas Carol Concert open to public. On a cold night of Sunday 1st December Morningside United Church in Holy Corner of Edinburgh’s Brunstfield, the stunning and atmospheric church hosted a well packed crowd. To the great joy of the SPCA committee the online tickets were sold out, but late arrivals still were able to purchase tickets at the door. Approximately 110 people attended the superb Carol Concert. A combination of a modern digital online sales supported by a standard sale of tickets on the door worked well.
In the spirit of Christmas tradition, the church featured a traditional Polish element of Christmas the Krakow crib with multitude of colours displayed on the altar. This year the Association has been privileged to host such distinguished household names: Magdalena Durant the soprano singer and Marzena Darska on piano as well as the Polish folk dance group “Ojczyzna” under leadership of Stefan Boron.
The evening had a special mix of singalong carols and performances by the artists. The artists were united by the theme of Christmas Carols but sang them in Polish or English. All families and friends sang their hearts out.
The first part featured Magdalena and Marzena, who gave a fabulous performance of Polish and English carols.

The second part of the concert featured Ojczyzna’s performers dressed in impressive colourful costumes, hats and accompanied by two hand held figures of a dragon and a colourful fan. Stefan Boron and his group took the audience by storm with their usual panache and enthusiasm, singing a range of famous Polish carols as well as English ones. One of the Polish Carols singers raised the spirit of Christmas and pulled in the audience into a communal signing. Many shared the experience of being taken back in time of the past Christmas celebrations. We are glad that Ojczyzna pick up the amazing Christmas heritage and demonstrate the wealth of Polish carol singing to wider audiences in Edinburgh! Keep dancing and singing. You have been a fantastic ambassador of Polish culture to Edinburgh audiences.

The evening was catered by a great supplier of Polish “the Best Dumplings in town”, based in Leith, Edinburgh who served a massive supply of delicious dumplings supplemented by a traditional beetroot soup (Barszcz) Bortsch.
